Wira Adventure Consultant managed and sponsored this event which was held on 2nd November. It was attended by more than 900 guests. It took place in the centre court of Gua Damai complex, situated near to Kg Wira Damai, Batu Caves, Selangor. This event was organised by Belia 4B Kg Wira Damai and Kg Seri Wira Damai, in conjunction of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.
Rock climbers and non climbers alike joined the makan makan fun and children made the event merrier with their screams and laughters while gliding down the flying fox. Foreigners and locals mixed well. They exchanged courtesies and enjoyed the sumptous traditional offerings of nasi himpit, kuah kacang, rendang, lemang, air batu campur (ABC) / ais kacang , as some would call it, and meehoon. Spaggeti was also one of the menu of the day and was specially cooked by Kaiyisah of Tuhfah Resources, one of the sponsors.
Although the event of the day was to begin at 1PM, the base jumpers begun their parachuting activity at 10AM. It certainly drew the crowd from morning till the evening. This was because, it was for the first time that base jumping was done from a hill, in Malaysia. Prior to this, all jumping events were conducted from high rise towers such as KL Tower, Alor Setar Tower and Menara TM. The technical manager for base jumping is Captain Abdul Aziz (R). Following this success, MSN, MPS and the Tourism Authority of Selangor will hopefully work together to organise a bigger Base Jump event comprising of 3 countries, namely, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
As the excitement goes on, more local people from the village warmed up the party. Among the VIPs that attended the event was YB En Aminudin Shari, the DUN of Batu Caves and YB Mr William Leong, the MP of Selayang. The event went on till 5PM when the last base jumper made the closing jump . The weather was just beautiful till 6PM when it began to rain as the food cleared and the crowd subsided.
Well, an international event might be held here next year, which is Rock Quest 09. We look forward to your participation and support. Gua Damai will also soon be developed into an extreme park along with the tourism plans of Selangor and Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS). Thank you to all those who came and participated.
