YOUTH AFFAIR JUNE 09
This event was organised by Dun Batu Caves (State representative) for youth in the vicinity of Batu Caves, on 27 & 28th June recently.
Held in the Gua Damai area, there were many activities and participation going on. Some of the activities are flying fox, BASE jump, futsal (the men wore sarong!), cultural dances, nasyeed, motor cross showcase, stalls selling food and non food items. The commandos of Kem Sg. Udang also participated in this event. They demonstrated abseiling and rock climbing skills.
Among the VIP attendees is YB Azmin Ali, the Parlimentary Representative of Gombak, who came to officiate the event. Also present is the DUN of Batu Caves, YB Amiruddin and other political representatives. The political secretary of the Menteri Besar of Selangor, YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad officiated the event.
The crowd puller were the flying fox and motor cross event which attracted the children's mass participation. The flying fox structure in Gua Damai was built and completed in time for the carnival. It only caters to children. The children also had fun in riding the mini scramblers themselves.
The futsal and the rope pulling event were fun to watch. The teams of men, were required to wear sarong in the futsal game. The idea is to make it harder for them to play, as the sarong must be worn below the knee level. The two afternoons were showered with heavy rain, making the field wet and muddy. This makes the rope pulling event funnier as the muscle men struggled to lean backwards firmly on their two feet. Many of them slipped and fell as they heaved and hoed to pull over the rope to their line.
The event ended with the prize giving ceremony at 6PM and many went home happily with their trophies and prizes.

VENUE OPEN TO EVENT ORGANISER
Gua Damai has been the ideal spot for production companies. Many groups have come here for location shooting for video scene backgrounds for song albums. That was way before the area was upgraded. Now more activities can be carried out.
As of last month, we had a kindergarten group with their sports day event. Just last week, 13 buses came from Singapore bearing students from a Chinese school for their rock climbing activity. We have also had the base jumping activities being frequently carried out. The venue also sees an international event coming up, later part of this year. The venue rental is very affordable. Do contact Mustapha for more details.
